Cellulite treatments are performed to reduce the dimples of cellulite — a common condition affecting the appearance of the hips, buttocks, and abdomen. Advanced options for cellulite treatment include radiofrequency therapy, subcision (inserting a needle under the skin to break up fibrous tissue), and the application of custom cellulite skin care products.

Who is a candidate for cellulite reduction?

The ideal candidates for cellulite reduction in New York are healthy individuals who are troubled by how cellulite affects the appearance of the buttocks, thighs, or other areas of the body. You may be a good candidate for this treatment if you are at or near your ideal body weight and bothered by cellulite in one or more areas of your body.

What should I expect with cellulite reduction?

As cellulite has a unique anatomy, fat reduction treatments may not be effective, and may even make the unsightly dimples more noticeable. Dr. Ostad can design a cellulite treatment plan specifically for you, which may include the following:

  • Radiofrequency (RF) therapy: a noninvasive treatment using electric and magnetic energy to break up cellulite; results can last several months
  • Subcision: a needle is introduced under the skin to free fibrous tissues — cellulite is noticeably improved for several years
  • High-quality skincare products: although most retail preparations do not live up to their claims, physician quality formulations containing retinol, aminophylline, caffeine, and readily-absorbed emollients can improve the appearance of cellulite while nourishing the skin

What to expect with radiofrequency therapy to treat cellulite?

Radiofrequency therapy, using the EndyMed device, is a nearly painless, non-invasive, skin revitalizing solution. This treatment works by heating deep skin layers to the optimum temperature for triggering collagen remodeling. It can be used to tighten sagging skin, improve fine lines and wrinkles, reduce cellulite, and generally rejuvenate the skin.

The RF application device can be adjusted to deliver the optimal amount of energy, precisely reaching the targeted tissue layer. Temperature monitoring is used to prevent overheating of the surface layer, avoid burns, and keep you comfortable throughout the process.

Because this procedure is so gentle, anesthetic is not needed. Treatment is not painful, but you will feel the intensity and depth of energy penetration. If it becomes uncomfortable, we can instantly adjust the energy level. The procedure is fast and efficient, taking approximately 15 minutes for a small treatment area.

FAQ

Will there be recovery time after cellulite treatment?

There is no downtime with radiofrequency therapy to treat cellulite. You may return to your usual activities immediately after the procedure. Subcision treatment requires minimal downtime. You may be able to return to normal activities on the day of the procedure. Bruising and slight pain is common in the first few days after a subcision treatment and will resolve on their own. Avoid vigorous exercise for one week after the procedure.

What is cellulite?

Everyone has a layer of fat just beneath the skin. It helps regulate body temperature and cushion organs. Fibrous bands of collagen connect the skin to underlying muscle tissue. When fat pushes up against this meshwork, it forms dimples and puckers at the surface, creating cellulite.

Why do more women than men have cellulite?

The appearance of cellulite is influenced by thin skin, excess weight, muscle tone, and build-up of toxins in subcutaneous (under the skin) tissues. Men typically have thicker skin with a different configuration of collagen, so they are less likely to have visible cellulite.

When will I see results with RF cellulite treatment?

Radiofrequency energy stimulates the body’s healing mechanisms for skin rejuvenation from within. Results develop gradually and naturally following treatment. You can expect continuing improvement for up to six months after RF therapy.

Can radiofrequency therapy for cellulite be combined with other treatments?

Yes. We often use radiofrequency in combination with other aesthetic procedures as part of a customized treatment plan. After an examination and consultation, we will help you choose the best combination of treatments to achieve your goals. Call Ariel Ostad MD PC to schedule an appointment.
