BOTOX® Cosmetic

Smiling, frowning, squinting, and other repetitive motions can really take a toll on your facial skin. These movements that happen over and over every day end up creating lines on the face that just increase and get deeper every day. Ariel Ostad, MD is the top provider of BOTOX® Upper West Side residents can rely on for exceptional cosmetic treatment. BOTOX® Cosmetic can help temporarily reduce lines and wrinkles on the face to reveal a smooth, wrinkle-free appearance.

Women and men who experience crow’s feet, frown lines between the brows, forehead lines, lip lines, and neck bands are ideal candidates for BOTOX® Cosmetic. If you experience excessive sweating, then BOTOX® may also be a treatment to consider to relieve these concerns. Candidates for BOTOX® Cosmetic and BOTOX® must be 18 years or older, in good overall health, and have realistic expectations of their results.

This injectable treatment is not suitable for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. A thorough consultation with Dr. Ariel Ostad will help to determine whether this neurotoxin is suitable for you.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a neuromodulator derived from a purified protein that is injected into precise areas of the face to smooth dynamic facial creases and lines. It disrupts the signals from nerves that cause muscle contractions, minimizing the look of wrinkles caused by facial muscle motions. BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved injectable designed to smooth moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and horizontal forehead creases that often make men and women appear angry or overtired. BOTOX® Cosmetic typically lasts four to five months.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to see the full results from Botox?

Results can be seen in as little as 24 hours, with the maximum effect being realized in 6-7 days.

How do facial expressions cause wrinkles?

Smiling, frowning, squinting, and other facial expressions occur naturally. We rarely think about the multitude of tiny muscles that power them. However, we use those muscles many times a day and after years of repetitive movement, they become rigid, causing lines and wrinkles in the overlying skin.

What are the most common areas Botox is applied to?

Botox is traditionally used to treat forehead lines, in between the eyebrows (known as the glabella), and corner/side of each eye (referred to as the canthus). Other areas and conditions treated with Botox are gummy smile, TMJ, Bunny Lines, Chin, Neck and Jawline, as well as lips. Botox can also be used to treat excess sweating in the hands, feet and underarms.

How long does Botox last for a gummy smile?

Botox lasts about 3-4 months for a gummy smile. Since this area is constantly in motion, it is recommended to treat gummy smiles more frequently.

At what age should I consider getting Botox?

This truly differs from person to person as everyone ages differently. Most individuals, however, find that wrinkling occurs in their early 30s, making them a good candidate for this treatment.

What do I need to avoid after Botox?

Clients should avoid laying down or leaning forward for the first hour of Botox. To limit the chance of bruising, although there is a small chance of this occurring, clients are advised to avoid alcohol and blood thinning medications for 24 hours prior to their treatment.

Do I have to keep getting Botox once I start?

Botox is not a permanent treatment. It is marketed to last 4 months. This timeline, however, may differ from patient to patient depending upon anatomy and activity.

What other conditions can be treated with Botox?

Botox can help treat a gummy smile, TMJ disorder, bell’s palsy, and help with migraines. Other cosmetic treatments include tightening the jawline, helping neck laxity, chin dimples, and lift lips.
