BOTOX®

BOTOX is a purified protein, injected into precise areas to smooth dynamic facial creases and lines. It disrupts the signals from nerves that cause muscle contractions, minimizing the look of wrinkles caused by facial muscle motions. BOTOX Cosmetic is an FDA-approved medication designed to smooth moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and horizontal forehead creases. Our New York BOTOX injections, when performed with meticulous skill, can also be used to lift the nose tip, create a subtle increase in lip volume, or treat excessive underarm sweat.

WHAT IS BOTOX?

BOTOX is a neuromodulator, derived from a protein. It is typically injected into the forehead, glabella (between the brows), and canthus (crow’s feet). It is also used to correct a gummy smile, slim the face, and smooth bunny lines.

WHAT DOES BOTOX DO?

BOTOX relaxes and prevents the overuse of targeted muscles that create a tired, heavy facial look.

HOW LONG DOES BOTOX LAST?

BOTOX conservatively lasts four to five months.

WHERE CAN I GET BOTOX?

Patients can get BOTOX injections in various areas of the face and body.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX?

BOTOX has several cosmetic applications, in addition to reducing wrinkles. You may be a good candidate for BOTOX treatment if you are seeking an effective treatment for any of the following:

  • Wrinkle reduction: dynamic wrinkles are created on the skin by repeated facial motions such as squinting, frowning, and concentrating. Dr. Ostad expertly injects BOTOX to address vertical furrows between the brows, horizontal forehead creases, crow’s feet, and vertical neck bands. BOTOX can be the sole treatment for these issues or part of an overall facial rejuvenation strategy.
  • Gummy smile: an attractive smile shows no more than three millimeters of gum tissue between the top of the teeth and the bottom of the upper lip. BOTOX injections can drop the upper lip, improving this proportion.
  • Non-surgical nose enhancement: BOTOX eases tension from the end of the nose to the upper lip, raising the tip of the nose. Dermal fillers can further enhance the nose silhouette.
  • Hyperhidrosis treatment:in addition to cosmetic applications, Dr. Ostad treats hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating) with BOTOX.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT WITH BOTOX TREATMENT?

Dr. Ostad uses a very fine needle for BOTOX treatment. The injections are placed just beneath the skin with a very fine needle, causing little pain or discomfort. A session typically takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to see the full results from Botox?

Results can be seen in as little as 24 hours, with the maximum effect being realized in 6-7 days.

How do facial expressions cause wrinkles?

Smiling, frowning, squinting, and other facial expressions occur naturally. We rarely think about the multitude of tiny muscles that power them. However, we use those muscles many times a day and after years of repetitive movement, they become rigid, causing lines and wrinkles in the overlying skin.

What are the most common areas Botox is applied to?

Botox is traditionally used to treat forehead lines, in between the eyebrows (known as the glabella), and corner/side of each eye (referred to as the canthus). Other areas and conditions treated with Botox are gummy smile, TMJ, Bunny Lines, Chin, Neck and Jawline, as well as lips. Botox can also be used to treat excess sweating in the hands, feet and underarms.

How long does Botox last for a gummy smile?

Botox lasts about 3-4 months for a gummy smile. Since this area is constantly in motion, it is recommended to treat gummy smiles more frequently.

At what age should I consider getting Botox?

This truly differs from person to person as everyone ages differently. Most individuals, however, find that wrinkling occurs in their early 30s, making them a good candidate for this treatment.

What do I need to avoid after Botox?

Clients should avoid laying down or leaning forward for the first hour of Botox. To limit the chance of bruising, although there is a small chance of this occurring, clients are advised to avoid alcohol and blood thinning medications for 24 hours prior to their treatment.

Do I have to keep getting Botox once I start?

Botox is not a permanent treatment. It is marketed to last 4 months. This timeline, however, may differ from patient to patient depending upon anatomy and activity.

What other conditions can be treated with Botox?

Botox can help treat a gummy smile, TMJ disorder, bell’s palsy, and help with migraines. Other cosmetic treatments include tightening the jawline, helping neck laxity, chin dimples, and lift lips.
