Lymphatic Drainage

Following procedures such as liposuction, you might experience some swelling in the target areas. Not only can this cause discomfort during your recovery period, but it may also prevent you from seeing the final results. To reduce the swelling, you should follow the liposuction procedure with lymphatic drainage, a service that you can benefit from at Dr. Ariel Ostad’s New York City office.

CANDIDATES

If you’ve had liposuction, then you are a good candidate for lymphatic drainage because it helps you achieve faster results while minimizing the side effects of the procedure.

Scheduling a consultation with Dr. Ostad will help to determine whether you are a candidate for lymphatic drainage or not. Dr. Ariel Ostad will look at your medical history and determine if you have any pre-existing conditions that may prevent you from undergoing this treatment.

How Lymphatic Drainage Works

Liposuction leads to post-procedure swelling. To reduce the swelling faster, lymphatic drainage with massage, ultrasound, and LED lights are utilized to reduce swelling faster. It is recommended to have these massages performed by our nurses once a week. The procedure lasts for about 45 minutes.

Lymphatic drainage is generally done through massages performed by a skilled practitioner. Usually, the treatment is performed two weeks after your liposuction procedure, to stimulate the elimination of the water and fluid in the tissues. Oxylight® technology delivers LED light, as well as oxygen, might also be used to encourage lymphatic drainage.

Lymphatic drainage is used to improve firmness and reduce swelling from the surgery. This procedure will boost your blood circulation and tissue regeneration, reducing fluid buildup along with the appearance of cellulite.

While a liposuction procedure requires local anesthesia, this is not usually needed for lymphatic drainage. Patients are called into the office once a week for about one month to help them achieve results much faster. That being said, you may book more sessions with Dr. Ostad for an even faster effect.

Before & After Lymphatic Drainage

Recovery

Recovery after lymphatic drainage is smooth, as the procedure in itself is a recovery method. It is designed to be relaxing and ease your post-surgery swelling, having minimal side effects.

A few days after the lymphatic drainage session, you should also try to get your muscles moving. This ensures a much better alignment, as you are already dealing with swelling. Keep yourself moving by going for a few walks or taking on some house chores.

Results

Results from lymphatic drainage are noticeable after just one session. However, depending on your goal, these results should be more visible after several treatments.

The higher the frequency of the treatments, the faster you will be able to see the results. Within the first 24 hours, you will notice that your swelling is no longer as pronounced. Your skin texture should also look better within a few days. Since lymphatic drainage helps circulate the fluids throughout the body, your metabolism may also be improved.

The results from lymphatic drainage can last up to 10 days and you’ll see the physical effects within six hours. The longevity of the results will often depend on your lifestyle and metabolism, and to maintain those results, make sure that you drink plenty of water and get enough exercise.
