Who is a candidate for microneedling?
Generally speaking, most adults are candidates for microneedling. Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, stimulates the skin to regenerate from within. You may be a particularly good candidate if you have facial scars from injuries or acne. A series of microneedling treatments can fade scars, leaving your skin looking and feeling firmer and more supple.
What can I expect with microneedling?
A specialized device creates a multitude of micro-channels in the upper skin layers. The device has ultra-fine needles, which pierce the skin to a specific depth. Unlike needles used for injections, these needles do not contact deep tissue, and therefore the procedure is not painful. The treatment is described as feeling like a mild scratching.
- A numbing cream is applied 60 minutes before treatment to help ensure your comfort
- The cream is removed, and the skin fully cleansed, removing impurities
- The procedure usually takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes to perform
For most patients, a series of three microneedling treatments is recommended. The number of treatments needed will depend on the current condition of your skin.
