Dermal fillers are some of the most convenient means of restoring facial volume and reversing the signs of aging. They’ve become increasingly popular because they are nonsurgical injectables that immediately take effect without downtime or complications.

However, a significant consideration that patients often express concerns their longevity. Unlike surgeries, facial dermal fillers have a limited lifespan, producing results that may last from a few months to several years.

Ultimately, while it’s possible to provide an estimate as to how long you can expect your facial filler results to last, several factors determine a facial filler’s longevity, including the type of dermal filler used and the specific treatment area. Here we will review a number of these factors.

Factors that determine the longevity of dermal fillers

Dermal Filler: Different dermal fillers have different compositions, so they also produce differing results. While some dermal fillers are only made to last for a few months, others catalyze your body’s collagen production capabilities, making the results last longer.

Treatment Area: Different parts of the face have different densities of skin and tissues. As such, dermal fillers last for different periods in different treatment areas, such as the eyes, cheeks, nose, etc.

Dosage: Your aesthetician will provide highly-calibrated doses of dermal fillers, depending on your cosmetic goals and needs. The treatment’s longevity also depends on the amounts of fillers injected into your body.

Metabolization Rate: Everyone’s body has a different metabolic rate. In most cases, the filler’s results fade away once its core components are absorbed and metabolized by your body. As such, the dermal filler’s longevity also depends on your body’s metabolic rate.
