Treatment Process

The treatment process for Fraxel® Restore can be updated based on every patient’s needs, depending on the desired results. That said, Dr. Ostad follows a series of standard steps to ensure maximum efficiency and safety for each treatment. Here are the general steps to every treatment process:

Consultation: Before receiving the treatment, Dr. Ostad will perform a consultation to determine whether or not Fraxel® Restore is the right option for you. Your goals will be discussed here, along with your medical history.

Treatment Prep: Dr. Ostad will prep the skin for treatment, using cleansing products to remove debris, makeup, and oils. A topical cream will also be applied to reduce potential discomfort during the procedure, with Dr. Ostad leaving it on the skin for an hour before he starts.

Laser Application: Once the skin has been prepped, Dr. Ostad will commence the application of the laser, which lasts around 10 minutes (depending on the area). The Fraxel® handheld device will be passed over the skin to deliver controlled heat into the skin, which creates microscopic channels within the dermis.

Post-Treatment Steps: Dr. Ostad will apply ice packs or a cooling device to soothe the skin. A moisturizer or a healing product will be applied to the skin to protect it. You’ll be advised to wear sunblock and stay out of direct sunlight for the next few days.  

After a Fraxel® Restore skin rejuvenation treatment, you may feel minor swelling and redness — almost like you have a sunburn. This usually diminishes in one to three hours. The intensity and duration of your side effects will depend on your healing characteristics as well as the aggressiveness of your treatment. 

The healing process for your skin can take one to two weeks. During this time, you may experience some redness, swelling, pinpoint bleeding, and sloughing off of the skin. After the sloughing, you may have a rosy glow (pinkness) that remains for several weeks.
