Light and oxygen are two basic ingredients to obtaining youthful skin. With the Oxylight® facial, both light and oxygen are used to promote facial rejuvenation and trigger collagen production. Not only can this reverse the signs of aging, but it can also help remove skin imperfections such as acne or scars. At Dr. Ariel Ostad’s New York City practice, we are happy to provide Oxylight® facial treatments to women and men who wish to rejuvenate their skin.
If you struggle with fine lines, wrinkles, scars, acne, hyperpigmentation, clogged/enlarged pores, lymphatic drainage, or sagging skin, then you may be a good candidate for the Oxylight® facial treatment. Whether you have oily or dry, light or dark skin, this can help turn your tired-looking skin into a more vibrant complexion.
However, keep in mind that certain contraindications can potentially take you off the candidate list, so we recommend a consultation with Dr. Ostad to determine if you are a true candidate for this treatment. For instance, if you have rosacea, then the Oxylight® may cause your rosacea to worsen, which may hinder you from being a candidate. If you have a sunburn, open wounds, or had a chemical peel done in the last four weeks, then it is also advised that you wait a little while longer to undergo your treatment.
The Oxylight® facial takes about 45 to 60 minutes in our office, and it should be performed once every three weeks. For the best results, you may want to go for four to five sessions. Dr. Ariel Ostad recommends a consultation first, to determine a timeline based on your skin issues. Here are the steps you’ll go through during the treatment:
The first step is very important, as it offers a clear canvas to work with. During this stage, all makeup and dirt are removed from your skin. A microdermabrasion treatment (also referred to as a diamond peel) is done to provide a deep, extra-fine exfoliation. This will prepare your skin for the next treatments, allowing them to be better absorbed into the skin.
During this step, an anti-aging serum made of either hyaluronic acid or stem cells is massaged into your skin, followed by a high-pressure oxygen spray. This way, it will be easier for the serum to be absorbed into the skin.
A Myolight micro-current is provided next to tone and contour your facial muscles. This should work to wake your skin up after the relaxing steps you’ve had before. Currents will be delivered based on your tolerance, but the higher the currents, the better the results can be.
The second step is a negative pressure therapy session that will use a handheld tool to massage and suction your neck (i.e., your lymph node area). This can help improve your blood circulation and cancel out the bloating, reducing the appearance of cellulite. This stage is also one of the reasons why many people opt for Oxylight® after liposuction, as it helps promote lymphatic drainage.
Next is the Biosonix Ultrasound to help deliver the serums deeper into the skin. This step will use a combination of LED light and ultrasound to push the serums deeper, offering a moisturizing effect.
Last but not least, this step will allow the oxygen to be better absorbed into your skin. The process can stimulate collagen production, kill bacteria, and reduce inflammation. At the end of this step, a relaxing peel-off clay mask will be used to soothe your skin.
This treatment brings minimal recovery or downtime, making it a good option for those who do not have a lot of time on their hands. You may expect a slight micro-current sensation, but it should not stay long after the treatment is completed. You may also notice some temporary redness and inflammation caused by the oxygen blasts to your face, but these side effects should also dissipate in a short time. Allergies to the serums are rare, but if you have any known allergies, they may be prevented by going to an initial consultation with Dr. Ostad.
During the recovery period, make sure to apply the recommended skincare products. Also, even if it’s winter or a cloudy day, don’t forget to use sunblock. Your skin is highly sensitive to UV rays at this point, so you may want to use a minimum SPF30, and reapply accordingly. The higher your skin sensitivity, the stronger the sunblock should be, but the best approach would be to avoid sun exposure as much as possible.

After getting the Oxylight® facial, you can expect to see younger-looking, glowing, and clear skin. The first results should be visible from the very first session, as your skin will feel softer and smoother. That being said, for you to see the final results, you may want to wait several weeks and go for at least four Oxylight® facial sessions.
To maintain your results, you should ensure that your skin receives proper aftercare, and follow Dr. Ariel Ostad’s instructions on daily cleansing and skin care. Additionally, to maintain the results for as long as possible, you can schedule maintenance treatments once every few months.
