Changing of the seasons can be such a beautiful experience. Out with the old, in with the new, and time for a different and refreshing view. The same can be said about the skin. Skin rejuvenation with Fraxel® CO2 can remove the old, dead skin cells to make room for the body to regenerate a new, healthy, and beautiful facial aesthetic. Fraxel® CO2 reduces sun damage, wrinkles, and a poor complexion. While Fraxel® CO2 can be performed at any time during the year, it may be best to receive this treatment during the winter months as there is a bit of an advantage! We’ll tell you why…
During your Fraxel® CO2 treatment, the top layer of your skin is removed using laser light energy, which then stimulates the natural production of collagen. This means that between the time of your appointment and the new skin’s regeneration, your skin is much more sensitive to the harsh elements of life. In the winter, you aren’t as likely to go outside as much as in the summertime, and if you do, then it’s not for long periods of time. Your skin is also more pale in the winter compared to the summer (typically), meaning the Fraxel® CO2 laser can work better on lighter skin tones, creating a much more efficient correction and results.
In winter, there are more snow days and colder weather keeping you inside. This is the optimal time to cuddle up on the couch in comfy clothes and stay in to let your body work its magic. You may experience flaking skin for about one week while the old, dead skin exfoliates naturally. The treated skin may appear swollen and slightly red, fading to pink over the course of a few days then to its natural color as the fresh skin comes through. Sleeping with your head elevated can help to reduce puffiness, and cold compresses can reduce any redness and swelling. If you do have to go outside, make sure to wear proper attire to block the sun from hitting your face.
Keeping yourself and your skin healthy gives you the best chance at maintaining these desirable resurfacing results. It is important that you follow all after-care instructions given to you by Dr. Ariel Ostad. A few things to keep in mind, include:
While the Fraxel® CO2 laser treatment stimulates the natural production of collagen over time, you can be proud to continuously show off the new you in the new year with firmer, smoother, healthier skin and a more even skin tone.
