You’ve taken the plunge and are ready to show off your legs with style! That cute dress you’ve been eyeing is still on the racks, and you’ve got the perfect occasion to wear it. But, what’s really going on after your sclerotherapy service? Can you even wear that dress right after? Will your red, purple, or blue veins still pop through? Let’s discuss what to expect after sclerotherapy with Dr. Ariel Ostad and what you can do to ensure that you recover fully so that you can show off your legs!.

First, What Is Sclerotherapy?

You probably already know what sclerotherapy is if you’ve come to this blog, but here’s a quick snippet of what the treatment entails. Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive vein procedure in which a needle is inserted into the spider or varicose veins. Dr. Ostad then injects a solution into the vein, causing it to collapse and become useless. The blood that once flowed through the damaged vein is rerouted, and eventually the destroyed vein is absorbed by the body naturally, revealing smooth vein-free legs.

Recovering From Sclerotherapy

Because this treatment is an in-office procedure, you will be able to drive yourself home when you are finished and released from Dr. Ostad’s care. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled for about two weeks after your initial appointment to check the progress of the treated veins and to give you any further instruction.

After treatment, it is important that you wear your compression garment for at least two weeks. This compression on the treated area helps to reduce swelling and it also prevents excess blood from sitting in the veins. Walking is also crucial to recovery as it helps to circulate the blood and speed up the recovery process. Starting out slowly is smart, and then you can gradually increase your speed and length of time you are out enjoying the fresh air.

What Should I Avoid After Sclerotherapy?

The recovery for sclerotherapy is very minimal; however, you should avoid:

  • Anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Hot baths
  • Hot compresses
  • Direct exposure to sunlight

This treatment can be performed at any time of year since it is a quick recovery period and doesn’t require much downtime. You will be able to wear shorts and dresses and not have a care in the world after you’ve undergone your sclerotherapy treatment with Dr. Ostad.
