It is FDA-approved for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines, also known as glabellar lines, between the eyebrows in adults.

Both Jeuveau and Botox are botulinum toxin type A injectables used to relax muscles and smooth facial wrinkles. The main difference is that Botox (by Allergan) is approved for both medical and cosmetic uses, while Jeuveau (by Evolus) is exclusively designed for cosmetic treatments and uses a proprietary purification process called Hi-Pure™ technology. Jeuveau is sometimes referred to as “Newtox” due to its aesthetic-only focus.

BOTOX® works by blocking nerve signals to the targeted muscles, preventing them from contracting. This relaxation of the muscles smooths out the overlying skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and lines.

The BOTOX® treatment process involves a consultation to discuss your goals and assess your facial anatomy. The actual injections take about 10 to 15 minutes. Dr. Ariel Ostad uses a fine needle to inject BOTOX® into the targeted muscles. There is minimal discomfort, and no anesthesia is required.

BOTOX® and Jeuveau treatments require little to no downtime. Most patients return to their daily activities immediately after the procedure. It is recommended to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and lying down for at least 4 hours post-treatment to ensure optimal results.

Results typically begin to appear within 3 to 5 days after treatment, with full effects visible within 10 to 14 days. The treated areas will look smoother and more refreshed.

The effects of BOTOX® and Jeuveau generally last between 3 to 6 months. As the muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to reappear and may need re-treatment. Over time, with repeated treatments, the lines and wrinkles often appear less severe as the muscles are trained to relax.

Common side effects include mild swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection site. These effects are usually temporary and resolve within a few days. Rarely, some patients may experience headaches or flu-like symptoms. Dr. Ostad will discuss all potential side effects with you during your consultation.

Both are effective and safe when administered by a qualified provider. BOTOX® has a longer clinical history and broader FDA approvals (including for migraines, hyperhidrosis, and more), while Jeuveau may be preferred for purely aesthetic goals due to its targeted cosmetic formulation.
